The principal of Sustainable Furniture, Inc. spent many years traveling throughout the country removing and installing institutional furniture at both college campuses and military facilities. A common theme was how to deal with the large volumes of furniture in an environmentally responsible way. The concept of re-manufacturing furniture from reclaimed materials was born. From inception, our mission has been to promote alternatives to the traditional disposition of residence hall furnishings, once they have met or in most cases well exceeded their life cycle. Here at SFI, we do not believe in feeding landfills. ÒObsoleteÓ is not in our vocabulary. We believe itÕs in everyoneÕs best interest to reduce our waste stream through waste prevention and the insistence upon recyclability of all new products. We work diligently to protect the environment by reclaiming materials and creating new furniture. ItÕs what we do, itÕs what we believe in. We help institutions renovate housing with minimal waste. Sustainable Furniture, Inc. is unique in residence hall furniture manufacturing. Our business model embraces the concept of sustainability at its core value. In addition to manufacturing new solid hardwood furniture from responsibly harvested forest lands, we stock large amounts of reclaimed solid wood panels to be used in conjunction with new components for those customers engaged in creating a sustainable living space at all levels.
