Although founded in November 2004 by a group of coffee enthusiastic friends, this still puts us as a newcomer to the traditional Swedish coffee scene. Passionate about coffee we set out to change the Swedish coffee culture, break the anonymity of the bean and to promote the skill and craftsmanship that goes into a good cup of coffee. The recipe is no secret; we roast more exclusive, tastier, quirkier, fairer and more organic coffees. We know that a slower roasting process and high quality beans add up to a better product. Beans are roasted by hand in small batches on two vintage machines from 1956. Not because we are traditionalist, but simply because the beans taste better that way. The Slow Roast method, which for us means anything between 12 to 15 minutes, bring out the true taste of the coffee and gives the best cup possible. Our ambition is to roast Swedens most ethic and environmentally friendly coffee, and we have direct contact with at least 85% of the producers that we buy from. Our belief in a sustainable product also means that we strive to buy as much Fair Trade and organic product as possible. However, we do not stop there. Johan & Nystrm believe Direct Trade, where as much bureaucracy is shaved of as possible as well as allowing us to work with farmers to promote sustainable agriculture such as planting shading trees, reducing the use of pesticides, replanting of deforested areas and so forth.
