Fraser Valley Regional District

Service Provider in Chilliwack, British Columbia

Welcome to the Fraser Valley! Here you will find that we have active cities, peaceful rural communities, and everything in between. The Fraser Valley has robust economies in agriculture, tourism, education, health care and aerospace, just to name a few. Our stunning landscapes run the spectrum from prairie-like vistas across the valley to soaring mountains and deep, rocky canyons that are home to the mighty Fraser River. We may be biased, but we think our recreational opportunities are second to none! From outdoor activities (bird watching, biking, hiking, kayaking, horseback riding, paragliding, golfing, skiing, snowboarding and snow shoeing) to water based activities (boating, swimming, whitewater rafting, fishing, water skiing, and windsurfing) to cultural activities (agricultural fairs, museums, music festivals, and world class art and cultural centres offering plays, musicals, and art shows), the Fraser Valley has a lot to offer. Diverting organic material (yard waste and kitchen scraps) from our regional landfills is a priority in the FVRD Solid Waste Management Plan [PDF - 1.2 MB]. Backyard composting is the most sustainable solution to dealing with organic waste, but not always the best or most logical option for everyone (consider businesses, apartment buildings, schools, etc.). In early 2016, the FVRD will be seeking your input on the best way to implement a regional organics disposal ban. In preparation for that consultation process, we welcome your suggestions on the best way to engage you in the discussion. Email us your ideas. The Regional District is now receiving input from community leaders across the region as part of this “pre-consultation” process, and this work will continue until the end of summer.
